Millets are becoming an essential part of everyone’s diet these days. While millets are available as a whole grain or flour, they are also available as rava or flattened rice /poha. I usually grab a pack of millet Poha during my grocery hauls. Poha upma is an usual affair with them. However, I wanted to try a payasam with it and it turned out very tasty and healthy too.
Foxtail millet or Thinai Aval is very rich in Vit B12 – an essential ingredient for healthy heart, good skin and nervous system. As an added feature, it also has a low glycemic index and hence good for diabetic person. In this recipe,, I have used condensed milk to sweeten the payasam. If you would like to, you can also replace it with any natural sweetener like dates syrup or honey after turning off the stove. This is a very healthy replacement to rice with added nutritional values. Try this foxtail millet poha kheer/ Thinai Aval Payasam and enjoy.
