Strawberry Jam

The quarantine time has lots to do with online grocery orders. We have been doing online orders for our weekly vegetables and fruits. The process of cleaning and storing them is a tricky one as some of the fresh produce needs to be used early. Berries usually have a short shelf life and hence needs to be finished off sooner. We were bored with eating them as such and also I was running short of jam for our morning toast. I had almost half a box of strawberries that needs to be used sooner, hence decided to use them up in jam rather than trashing after it becomes inedible. This strawberry jam is healthy and easy to make with exactly three ingredients. It is almost not time-consuming. When refrigerated, this can stay good for two weeks. We had this rustic and tasty homemade jam with our morning toast along with some fruits. Do try out this quick jam and enjoy with your warm toast.

  1. Wash and clean strawberries. Chop off the green leafy part and rinse again to make sure there is no leaf part in it.
  2. Cut the strawberries into halves. Place the strawberries in a wide pan and add 1/4th cup of strawberries.
  3. Switch on the flame and let it cook with the lid on. This should take about 8-10 mins for the strawberries to become soft and mix with the sugar.
  4. Using a potato masher, roughly mash the strawberries and fold them together. Cook without lid for another 5 mins until they combine and fold together to reach jam consistency.
  5. Switch off the stove and add lemon juice from half of a lemon. allow it to completely cool off. Transfer to a clean and dry container. Store in refrigerator and use it in two weeks.
Recipe Notes

  • The quantity of sugar varies depending on the sweetness of strawberries. My sugar level was just right for the strawberries I used.
  • You can also replace brown sugar instead of white sugar.
  • Always use a dry and clean spoon to serve this jam.
