Sathumaavu Urundai

I was MIA mode for some time now, due to other priorities in life. I am back into actions with loads of pictures of the recipes that I had cooked and clicked so far during this break. To start off after that festive food, I made this Sathumavu Urundai a.k.Health mix balls for a week’s school snack. The little one at home was overjoyed at home and started demanding these as “Energy ladoos”. I prefer to do lots of homemade stuff than the store-bought ones. While a friend of mine passed me a whole box of health mix powder and palm jaggery, I wanted to use them in a different way instead of making routine health mix porridge for the family. Some of the recipes that I googled had regular sugar in it and I replaced it with palm jaggery syrup. These are really “energy ladoos” keeping in mind all the good stuff that goes into it. Do try this at home as a healthy snack option for the kids at home.

Total Time: 25 mins
Ingredients
  • 1 cup Sathumavu | Health mix powder
  • 0.5 cup Karupatti | Palm Jaggery ((Powdered))
  • 1 pinch Dry ginger powder
  • 4 tbsp Ghee
Instructions
  1. Dry roast health mix for 2 – 3 mins or until a flavorful aroma arises. Set them aside.
  2. In the same pan, measure 1/3 cup of grated palm jaggery and add water just enough to cover the palm jaggery.
  3. Let it dissolve completely and boil for about 5 minutes to form a syrup consistency. Switch off the stove and strain it twice to avoid any dirt and sand particles. Allow it to come to room temperature.
  4. Heat 2 tbsp of ghee in a pan. Add the palm jaggery syrup to the roasted health mix powder along with a pinch of dry ginger powder and mix thoroughly.
  5. Spread the melted ghee and combine it with hands when it is bearable too. make balls out of it and store it in a container.
Recipe Notes

  • I used store-bought health mix powder. You can also use a homemade health mix.
  •  My store-bought health mix powder had cardamom in it already. If you need an extra flavor, add one generous pinch of cardamom powder to the urundai.
  •  Palm sugar can also be replaced with regular powdered sugar, brown sugar, etc. In the case of using regular sugar, just powder it and mix with the roasted health mix powder.
