OMAM KULAMBU || Postpartum Recipes

Indian spices are rich in medicinal values. Every spice has medical benefits to cure cough, cold, indigestion, and congestion easily available in the Indian Pantry. Of these the one spice that aids in indigestion disorder is the carom seeds/ Omam/ ajwain seeds. Omam is very versatile, that it can be even given to little babies for gassiness. I tried this Omam Kulambu for a weekend lunch after all the elaborate spreads we had the days before. It is a very tasty and flavorful kulambu that is suitable for all ages. Ingredients
  • 1 cup Thick Tamarind Juice
  • 1/4 cup Chopped Small Onions
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2 tbsp Gingelly Oil
  • 1 stick Red Chilli
  • 1 dash Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Jaggery Powder
  • To dry Roast and Powder
  • 2 tsp Omam/ Ajwain
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 1 tsp Jeera Seeds
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli
Instructions
  1. Dry roast two teaspoons of omam, one teaspoon jeera, pepper, and one red chilli.
  2. When they cool down, dry grind to a fine powder.
  3. Heat a pan with two tablespoons of gingelly oil. Once hot, add mustard seeds, red chili. Now add chopped small onions. Sautee until soft and golden brown.
  4. Add one cup of thick tamarind juice. Add one-fourth teaspoon of turmeric powder and salt to taste. Let it begin to boil.
  5. Add the powdered masala and let the kulambu boil until it thickens. Add half a teaspoon of jaggery powder. Turn off the stove. Serve with hot rice and vegetable of choice.
