Methi Mushroom Masala

Mushrooms are a naturally available source of Vitamin D. In addition, they are high in water content, making them a low-calorie food. The mineral Selenium found in mushrooms is great for bone health making them one of the superfoods. Mushrooms when combined with methi leaves elevate the nutritional level of the food. I tried this combo after coming through a recipe in a random recipe book.  I made some changes to the recipe to suit our taste buds and it turned out to be so good and flavorful. The mushrooms were so flavorful and it turned out to be a perfect side for both rice and rotis. Try this healthy and flavorful Methi Mushroom Masala and you will only make mushrooms this way hereafter.

  • In a bowl, add half a cup of yogurt. Add half a teaspoon of Chaat masala powder and salt. Whisk them together. Add two cups of chopped mushrooms. Mix together and marinate for 15- 20 mins.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add cinnamon stick and fennel seeds. Let them roast. Add chopped onions, slit green chilli, and ginger-garlic paste. Saute till the raw smell goes off.
  • Add Tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and Salt. Cover and Cook until tomato turns mushy.
  • Add the marinated mushroom and cook until they shrink in size.
  • When the mushrooms are cooked, add roughly chopped methi leaves. Cook them covered for 3 - 4mins until done.
  • Add garam masala and cook another 2 mins. Turn off stove. Serve with rotis/ pulav.
