We need to include healthy foods into our daily diet. Healthy foods need not be always salads and soups. We can make our regular meals incorporating these healthy ingredients to it. One of the plants that have most of its part that is edible is Drumstick/Moringa tree. The leaves, flowers, vegetables can be safely consumed and it is healthy too. Drumstick leaves are rich in Iron and they can be included in our diet often. If you are a person like me, who loves thogayal, then this recipe is for you. A ladle of this thogayal with a spoon of gingelly oil on hot rice is very tasty and healthy. This thogayal can also be had with Idli and dosa too.

  • In a pan, add one teaspoon of gingelly oi. Add a table spoon of urad dal and channa each with a quarter teaspoon of jeera seeds and red chillies. Roast until dals get golden brown in color.
  • Add washed drumstick leaves to the pan with leftover oil. SAutee until the leaves get wilted.
  • Turn off the stove. Add grated coconut, turmeric powder, garlic clove, tamarind, and salt. Let it cool down.
  • Transfer the ingredients to mixer jar. Add two tablespoons of water. Grind to a fine thogayal Transfer to a bowl.
  • Make a tempering with oil, mustard seeds, Urad dal and red chilli. Transfer tempering to the thogayal. Serve with rice, idli or dosa.
