0/4 Instructions
  • In a pan, dry roast two tablespoons of Urad dal first followed by half a cup of coriander seeds until aroma comes out. Make sure to roast all of them in medium-low flame.
  • In the same pan, add a drizzle of oil. Once hot, roast a big pinch of asafoetida until it puffs up. Now add red chilli and roast until black spots begin to appear. At the last add in two cloves of garlic with skin. Roast them and transfer to a plate to cool.
  • Once all of them had cooled down, add to a mixer jar with required salt.
  • Grind them to a coarse powder. Transfer to an airtight container and use.

Notes

  • I have used the block asafoetida in this recipe while roasting. If you do not have them, you can also add asafoetida powder while grinding the podi.
  • Replace white urad dal with split black urad dal if you like them.
