Custard Powder is a mixture of milk proteins and cornflour along with a little amount of sugar in it. The custard flour is available in stores in different flavors like banana, strawberry, oranges, and Mango. Each of the flavors has a unique taste in them. Custard powder is used as a base to make fruit custard, cupcakes, eggless french toasts, and this tasty halwa.

Instructions

0/8 Instructions
  • In a bowl, add half a cup of custard powder.
  • Add one and a quarter cups of sugar to it.
  • Add one and a half cups of water to the custard powder and sugar. Whisk them completely to avoid any lumps. Set aside.
  • Heat a pan with a tablespoon of ghee.
  • Once the ghee melts, add the custard powder mixture to the pan and keep mixing in medium flame continuously.
  • After 3-4 mins, the custard powder begins to get cooked and come together. Add one tablespoon of ghee in this stage.
  • Keep mixing the halwa and add another tablespoon of ghee. Let the halwa not stick to the pan anymore and the ghee begins to ooze out. This is the right stage. Turn off the stove.
  • Transfer halwa to a greased pan and let it come to room temperature. Garnish with chopped almonds and slice them into squares and serve.

Notes

  1. The color of the halwa depends on the flavor of the custard powder used. You can make different flavors and serve them all together to get a rainbow custard halwa platter.
  2. I do not use any flavoring agent like rose water or cardamom powder. You can use them if you like.
  3. The addition of nuts is optional. You can add them finely chopped with or without roasting them.
