Aval Ladoo

This healthy Aval Ladoo is my kids' recent favorite. This ladoo can be made in a jiffy with simply three ingredients that are available in the pantry. Also, it is very healthy with the addition of dates- a rich source of iron and also a natural sweetener. While having a random phone conversation with mom, she told me about this Aval ladoo. We usually make this with Jaggery. She said me how it will taste when made with dates. I tried it the next day and surprisingly, it came out too good. The amount of Ghee used in making this recipe is way too less. I usually use red aval at my home usually. You can also try the same recipe with white aval too. Do try this healthy Aval Ladoo and enjoy it!

Total Time: 20 mins
Ingredients
  • 1 cup Red Aval/ Poha/ Flattened rice
  • 10 stick Dates
  • 1 pinch Cardamom Powder
  • 1 tsp Ghee
Instructions
  1. Measure one cup of poha/Aval and set it aside. Heat a heavy-bottomed pan on a medium flame and add the measured Aval to it.
  2. Dry roast it for about 3 to 4 mins until it gets roasted and gives out a flavor. Set it aside.
  3. Deseed the dates if you are using seeded ones. Chop them into rough pieces. Once the roasted poha/Aval is cooled down, transfer it to the mixie jar. Make sure it is dry before transferring.
  4. Grind the roasted poha/ Aval to form a coarse powder. Add the chopped date to this and pulse it until the Aval and dates combine. Add a pinch of cardamom powder and pulse one more time.
  5. Transfer to a plate and grease the palm with ghee. Make small ladoos out of this. Stays fresh for a week even when kept outside.
Recipe Notes

  • You can use white or red type of Aval to make these ladoos.
  • You can also add powdered nuts to it and make ladoos out of it.
